All club members, and their friends and families, are welcomed to participate in the 2008 WARA/CC-ARC Field Day (FD). You don't have to be a contest operator or have HF privileges. In fact, you don't even need a license to participate, as you can operate with one of the club's Advanced or Extra class licensees as the control operator. On-site training will be provided.

Goals:

• Emergency Preparedness Exercise
• Getting new, inactive, and potential hams on the air
• Presenting amateur radio to the public, and to Dexter-Southfield students
• Demonstrating amateur radio's emergency capabilities to Waltham & Brookline EMAs
• Activating the WARA historical call, W1MHL, on the club's 70th birthday year
• Having fun

Basic Operation Details:

• Class 2A
  • Two HF stations (W1MHL)
  • GOTA station (W1CLA) - Tentatively VHF only; add HF if enough interest
  • VHF station (depending upon participation level)
• Simple antennas - probably all dipoles for HF
• Operation from emergency power - generators & batteries
• Computer logging w/ N1MM Logger; training available on-site & possibly in advance
• Pot Luck Cookout for those interested (otherwise, bring your own food or order take-out)

Anyone interested is welcome to visit the FD site. However, a successful Field Day club operation requires participants willing make a commitment to come for at least part of the weekend, preferably including set-up and/or clean-up.
